BUSINESS CLASS

ON A

Budget

Low cost carriers are offering choice and value when it comes to premium travel.

T

he terms ‘budget travel’ and ‘Business Class seating’ were once at the opposite ends of the travel spectrum. But now, Jetstar, AirAsia X and Scoot have all made a significant move into attracting premium travellers with a range of flight options that offer bigger seats and even business class beds. Jetstar’s Business Class is available on such flights as Sydney to Phuket or Hawaii, and includes priority check-in, a wide recliner leather seat with 86cm pitch, 30kg of checked baggage and all meals and drinks. A one-way Jetstar Business fare in late October from Sydney to Phuket starts from $749. “The demand for business class is strong and we are seeing a healthy load factor on services,” a Jetstar spokesperson said.

BY JOHN BURFITT

“Jetstar pioneered long haul low fares travel and our Business Class offering provides a higher level of comfort and service to customers wanting to have more space onboard.” Scoot, the low cost carrier within the Singapore Airlines family, has been making its own mark over the past 12 months on the Sydney to Singapore route. In addition to the affordable economy fares is ScootBiz, a premium offering which includes a separate 32-seat cabin, recliner seat with 96cm of seat pitch, 20kg of checked baggage, and one complimentary meal. The late October one-way fare for ScootBiz from Sydney to Singapore starts from $499. Scoot offers a range of connections throughout Asia, and also

12

has 20 Boeing 787s on order for the coming years. AirAsia X’s Premium seating on the Sydney to Kuala Lumpur route, however, has set itself apart by offering a cabin of 12 seats, all of which convert into flat beds. “The seats have been a soaring success,” AirAsia X Australia’s Stuart Myerscough said. “Travellers have taken to the flatbed seat concept and we believe it has established a new benchmark for low cost, long haul flying.” The introduction of this choice of seating on the low cost carriers has also impacted the full-service carriers. “The cost of Business Class seats on budget carriers has actually created more competition, so overall Business Class seat prices have decreased,” Colin Bowman, Flight Centre’s Executive General Manager, said.

THE Premium EXPERIENCE We put AirAsia X Premium to the test.

T

here are no bells or whistles in the Premium section of AirAsia X’s flights between Sydney and Kuala Lumpur, with no signs of linen tablecloths or designer branded amenity packs usually associated with Business Class travel. Air Asia X Premium

What AirAsia X does offer, however, is what most people really want in a premium section: comfort, space and quiet. The spacious seat turns into a comfortable flatbed, in a dedicated cabin with its own toilet. With only 12 seats in the Premium section, it also has to be one of the quietest and cleanest cabins in the skies. The flatbed reclines to an easy position and extends to 2.3 metres, enabling the Premium travellers to get a good night's sleep. The thick duvet and pillow complete the experience. While only one bottle of water and only one meal were offered in the seven-hour flight, when it (a chicken lasagne) arrived, it was delicious. Drinks are available to purchase but if you want a tablet for screen entertainment, it is best to pre-book it online before flying. A Premium ticket includes 25kg of checked luggage. The verdict: For the traveller who wants something more than a tight economy seat but does not want to spend up for full-service airlines' premium cabins, AirAsia X Premium fits the bill. It offers the best standards of comfort and space, but without fussy service or superfluous add-ons. With a Premium ticket to KL for late October starting from $999, it is a good market option. AirAsia X also offers the opportunity to upgrade onboard, dependent on seat availability. Visit airasia.com

The CONCIERGE SAYS

Name: Colin Toomey Role: Chief Concierge, Shangri-La Hotel Sydney On the job: 18 years Opera Bar

Colin Toomey of the Shangri-La Hotel Sydney offers his inside view on the best the Harbour City has on offer in spring.

W

hat is the best part of your job?

As a concierge, you deal with such a wide assortment of requests. I enjoy the creative input this affords, and the satisfaction of providing something truly special for our guests is a great motivator.

BY JOHN BURFITT

What is the most common question you get asked? Not surprisingly, it is what is being performed at the Opera House. Rarely a day goes by when we are not providing information on the schedule or booking tickets. Where do you send guests for the best scenic walk? The Spit Bridge to Manly walk is high on my list. It is about three hours but is not overly strenuous. The views over Sydney Harbour are spectacular and at the end you can take a return ferry trip from Manly back into the city.

16

Where do you recommend for the best harbourside spot to drink and dine? For a coffee or light meal I would suggest the Portobello Café or the Opera Bar. For drinks and dinner you could not go past the Shangri-La Hotel’s Blu Bar on 36 and Altitude Restaurant. The panoramic views are unparalleled. Where do you consider the best shopping stretch in Sydney? The main shopping district with its diverse range of retailers is within a block or two of Pitt Street Mall. For the latest trends, I suggest Crown Street, Surry Hills or Darling Street in Balmain. What is the best show in town at the moment? Until the end of October, the Sydney Theatre Company is presenting Romeo and Juliet at the Sydney Opera House. What is your favourite place in Sydney? The Botanic Gardens and Domain, with its green space – over 60 hectares – right in the heart of the city. The Domain is home to the Art Gallery of NSW, St Mary’s Cathedral and Hyde Park Barracks, some of our most impressive examples of colonial architecture.

t is the most famous building in the country. It is also the structure that helped stamp Sydney’s place as an international city. The Sydney Opera House is a symbol of the city and is often referred to as its heart as well. On 20 October, the grand lady of the sails turns 40, and the milestone is being marked with a week of celebrations. In honour of Danish architect Jørn Utzon who designed the Opera House, a building that UNESCO labelled ‘a masterpiece’, Denmark’s HRH Crown Prince Frederik and HRH Princess Mary will be attending the celebrations as official Patrons of the Opera House’s 40th Anniversary program. A range of concerts and special events will also be held to mark the four decades since the Saturday in 1973 when The Queen declared the performing arts complex open. In the years since, the building has helped to change the Harbour City through its vast array of performances and its very presence as a world-class arts venue. It has hosted grand opera, classical recitals, rock concerts, TV spectaculars, world

political meetings and even sporting events during the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games. “This birthday is one of celebration, reflection, contemplation and anticipation, much like any 40-year-old does on their birthday,” Diane Veness, Corporate Archivist for the Sydney Opera House said. “We are looking back over a fabulous 40 years and also looking forward to see what the future will hold for the artists, audiences and visitors to this special place. It is almost impossible to take a bad photograph of the beautiful building – it doesn’t have a bad side!” Veness says that while the Opera House was built between 1957 and 1973 and earned its UNESCO rating as a World Heritage listed site in 2007, it has continued to evolve over time. “Even before it opened there were changes to the design,” she said. “The building continues to evolve and change internally and externally to meet contemporary needs, with the constant feature, its magnificent white shells.” sydneyoperahouse.com/40

Biggest events: Estimates vary between the 2SM Concert of the Decade in 1979, and Crowded House’s 1996 Farewell to the World concert. Both were held on the Forecourt, and both attracted audience estimates of between 100,000 and 250,000.

By Royal Command While it was Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II who opened the Sydney Opera House in 1973, it will be another royal household, Denmark’s HRH Crown Prince Frederik and his Australian-born wife HRH Princess Mary, who will be special guests as Patrons of the 40th Birthday program. The Royal couple will be involved in a number of celebrations throughout the week, in honour of the late Jørn Utzon. “The enduring connections between Australia and Denmark were first forged when a young Jørn Utzon won the original design competition for Sydney’s Opera House in 1957," Andrew Stoner, NSW Deputy Premier and Minister for Trade and Investment said.

performing arts centre. We are committed to building on the legacy of Utzon’s genius and look forward to a unique and exciting celebration of a much-loved landmark that is also Sydney’s cultural heart.”

“It is exciting to be celebrating the 40th Anniversary of one of the greatest buildings of the 20th century in the presence of Denmark's Crown Prince Couple.

For Crown Prince Frederik and Princess Mary, they return to the city where they first met during the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games.

Among the events the Crown Prince Couple will be involved

with will be the free exhibition titled Danish Rooms @ the Opera House, to be held in the Western Foyers from 25 October to 11 November.

Birthday Plans Between 9am and 1pm, the public will be invited to walk through the two main stage theatres, the Concert Hall and the Joan Sutherland Theatre, that have played host to some of the world's greatest artists and companies. On 10am on the same day, all visitors will be invited to join in and sing Happy Birthday and share the cutting of the Opera House cake. It was Beethoven’s Ode to Joy which officially opened Australia’s most famous building in October 1973, and on Sunday, 27 October, the Sydney Symphony, Opera Australia and music artists from around the country will recreate the opening concert on the Forecourt.

The 40th Anniversary Concert will feature artists and performances celebrating the life of the Opera House, culminating in Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony in the presence of Prince Frederik and Princess Mary, and the family of Opera House architect Jørn Utzon.

To mark the exact birthday, the Opera House will throw open its doors in the free ‘Open Door’ event on Sunday, 20 October.

Leading the Way Tour guide Nick Costa has been showing visitors around the Opera House for 15 years. What is it about the Sydney Opera House that has kept you here? The sculptural aspect and uniqueness of the building is what draws people’s attention, and I am no different. As a cultural arts centre which inspires the human imagination, and with 1800 performances a year, the place is buzzing with excitement. Do you have a favourite part of the building? The Concert Hall and the Joan Sutherland Theatre. The Concert Hall has that wow factor, as it is visually stunning. The Joan Sutherland Theatre is where the complete theatrical experience takes place. What are the insights you share with visitors on the tours? Memorable experiences, like the time real chickens were used for a Russian opera and they joined

the musicians in the orchestra pit! Then there was the biggest ever concert on the Forecourt, Crowded House Farewell to the World. And Hugh Jackman on Oprah’s show, the stunt that went terribly wrong. What one part of the building generates the most reaction? The Concert Hall. It’s big, beautiful and acoustically downright awesome during a performance. You can hear and feel every note. What has been your favourite reaction to the building? I took a private tour for a Japanese couple after the sun had set. When we stepped out onto the northern foyer, with a passing parade of boats and the moon reflecting on the harbour, it was a magical setting. They became so overcome with excitement, I thought they were going to faint!

Centre Stage The Sydney Opera House has played host to some of the biggest acts in the world, from every sphere of entertainment. This list includes just a few of the acts to grace its stage: Dame Joan Sutherland Luciano Pavarotti Joan Carden Roger Woodward Nigel Kennedy Carol Burnett Olivia Newton-John Peter Allen Crowded House Leonard Bernstein Roy Orbison Ella Fitzgerald

SYDNEY

Local favourites and visitor attractions combine to form the best this harbour city has to offer.

Nielsen Park

T

he effect of Sydney Harbour, the Opera House and Harbour Bridge can be dazzling for the first-time visitor. But just beyond the glamour and main attractions, Sydney offers a host of smaller, less obvious charms that may be far down the list in most guidebooks, but can offer an alternative insight into what really makes the city tick.

Best Eats Nielsen Park Kiosk on a tiny beach offers a range of great tastes and wonderful views of the world’s most beautiful harbour (nielsenpark.com.au). It’s hard to beat fish and chips at the iconic Watsons Bay Hotel or some of the freshly cultivated seafood at the Beach Club (watsonsbayhotel.com.au). On the north side, Balmoral’s Bathers’ Pavilion is perfect for a bowl of bircher muesli before swimming in the gentle waters of Balmoral Beach, or a light pasta

dish at the end of a long day (batherspavilion.com.au). Take in the view of the northern Sydney coastline from Le Kiosk at Shelly Beach, which locals will tell you boasts the finest oysters, with perfect wines to match (lekiosk. com.au). Catch a ferry west to the Woolwich Pier Hotel for steaks on the verandah with panoramic views (woolwichpierhotel. com.au), or further up the river to historic Parramatta for one of Sydney’s busiest strips of award-winning restaurants (discoverparramatta.com).

Fort Denison Museum

Bar at the End of the Wharf

BY JOHN BURFITT PHOTO: MITCHELL DUNCAN

Best Harbourside Drinking Spots The Sydney Theatre Company’s wharf is famous for great theatre, but its Bar at the End of the Wharf is just as famous for great cocktails and great views to the west of the bridge (sydneytheatre.com. au). Bypass all the great art at the Museum of Contemporary Art and head to the roof for the MCA Café, which promises views over Circular Quay as you consider a range of great white wines (mca.com.au). Across the harbour at Luna Park is The Deck, a bar and restaurant which presents the city in a picture perfect view as drinks are served (thedecksydney.com). Take the ferry to Hugos on Manly Wharf and enjoy a chilled drink while watching the sun go down over the city, as the boats of the harbour turn on their lights (hugos.com.au).

28

Best Activities For a city so defined by its waterways, one of the best ways to explore Sydney is from the water. Take an up close view of the harbour by kayak at Rose Bay (sydneykayak.com), or take a paddle through the Royal National Park and Port Hacking from the unique location of Bundeena (bundeenakayaks. com.au). Enjoy the spectacle of all the sights between the city and Parramatta in a 50-minute Rivercat ride through the winding estuaries of the harbour (transport.nsw.gov.au). For a more exclusive water tour, head north to Brooklyn and jump aboard the Riverboat Postman to help deliver mail to riveraccess-only homes along the magnificent Hawkesbury River. Saddle up a horse and take a morning ride through the beauty of sprawling Centennial Park from

the Equestrian Centre located on the edge of Fox Studios (centennialparklands.com.au). Don’t settle for a cinema with seats when there are beanbags on offer to watch the latest releases, along with a vegetarian feast, at Govinda’s Movie House (govindas.com.au).

Best Tours Head south to the beautiful waters of Port Hacking for an eco-tour of the waterway by sailboat, including a stop for a bushwalk at historic Audley in the Royal National Park (sailaustralia. com.au). In the heart of the city, step inside Sydney’s grandest theatre, the State Theatre, for a tour of the 1920s picture palace, complete with tales of the famous ghost who’s said to reside there (statetheatre.com. au). Take an even greater step back in time to Parramatta where

tours of the oldest buildings in the nation, Old Government House and Elizabeth Farm, reveal stories about the country’s earliest European pioneers (discoverparramatta.com). Across town at Georges Head above Balmoral, discover World War II history in the tunnels, forts and hiding places that helped protect the Harbour City during the darkest days of wartime in the National Parks and Wildlife Tour (nationalparks.nsw.gov.au).

Best Galleries The Brett Whiteley Studio is a true experience, with the worldacclaimed artist’s works and eccentric personal belongings all on display in the building he called home in Surry Hills (artgallery.nsw.gov.au/brettwhiteley-studio). In nearby Chippendale, the White Rabbit Gallery is winning rave reviews

for one of the world’s largest and most significant collections of contemporary Chinese art (whiterabbitcollection.org). In the tiny Object gallery in the St Margarets Quarter, catch a glimpse of Sydney’s emerging design talents (object.com.au). Relive the excitement of the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games with the outdoor gallery around the main stadium, including the Cauldron Fountain and the forest of 480 Games Memories Poles featuring the graphics, films and sounds of the Games (sydneyolympicpark.com.au). Fort Denison Museum is worth the ferry ride to the small harbour island to learn of early Aboriginal inhabitants of the land (fortdenison.com.au).

Best Walks Some extraordinary Aboriginal heritage sites are on display

on the city’s northern outskirts of Ku-ring-gai Chase National Park’s Red Cave Hands bush hike (environment.nsw.gov.au). Take the bus to the city’s most northerly coastal tip of Palm Beach and enjoy the long walk along its sands up to Barranjoey Lighthouse, and then around to Pittwater (lighthouse.net. au). The Bay Run around the shores of Iron Cove Bay on the Parramatta River can just as easily be walked in an easy twohour jaunt, to savour the views of the waters of Leichhardt and Drummoyne. If you have more than a few hours between flights, head out of Sydney Airport’s T1 terminal, cross the Marsh Street bridge and Princes Highway and within minutes you’ll be on the Cooks River Trail, taking in mangroves, parklands and bird colonies (trailflix.com.au).

Spring Stable The roses are in bloom, the grass is green and the horses are champing at the bit for Australia’s vibrant spring racing carnivals that come to cities around the country.

THE BIG THREE

BY JOHN BURFITT

Just a short flight from Sydney Airport, racing-mad Melbourne is the heart of the Spring Carnival. These are the three very different race days that stop the nation.

BMW Caulfield Cup

Sportingbet Cox Plate

Emirates Melbourne Cup

Saturday, 19 October // Caulfield Racecourse The Caulfield Cup is often used as a stepping stone to the Melbourne Cup and is frequented by international horses testing their hooves on Australian soil. It was first run in 1879 and is the world’s richest 2400-metre handicap with $2.5 million up for grabs. Seven horses have won the race twice, and in 2012 Dunaden did the impossible, taking out the Cup carrying a top-weight of 58kg.

Saturday, 26 October // Moonee Valley Racecourse Australia’s premier weight-for-age race is open to three-year-olds and up, and is the country’s third richest race with $3 million on the table. It was first run in 1922, and Kingston Town remains the only horse to have won the race in three consecutive years: 1980, 1981 and 1982. The Cox Plate is traditionally dominated by male horses, with only six mares and one filly to have nabbed top honours in the race’s history.

Tuesday, 5 November // Flemington Racecourse First run in 1861, the Melbourne Cup captures the imagination of Australians like few other sporting events. It’s the country’s richest race with more than $6 million in prize money on offer and is the ultimate test for long-distance horses. The race attracts the finest gallopers from around the world, and has been a ripe hunting ground for Australian equine legends including Makybe Diva, Think Big, Archer and Phar Lap.

FAST FACT:

FAST FACT:

An incredible 11 horses have gone on to win the Caulfield and Melbourne Cups in the same spring, making the race a key indicator of form leading into Australia’s richest race. Punters take note.

Hall of Famer Tommy Smith is the most successful trainer in Cox Plate history with seven wins. He trained the legendary Tulloch to victory in 1960 and was the man behind Kingston Town’s dominance in the early 1980s.

Bart Cummings is the Melbourne Cup’s most successful trainer with 12 wins spanning from 1965 to 2008. His next closest rival is Lee Freedman with five Cup victories to his name.

FASHIONS ON THE FIELD

The best dressed take to the field

The four-day Melbourne Cup Carnival is a highlight of Australia’s fashion calendar. However, the four race days boast very different themes. Follow this survival guide to avoid a disastrous fashion faux pas. AAMI Victoria Derby Day kicks off the Melbourne Cup Carnival in style with a traditional theme of black and white for ladies and grey morning suit with top hat for the fellas. The Emirates Melbourne Cup draws a 100,000plus crowd, with fearless fashionistas looking to stand out with their most daring fashion statement. This is the day to let your creativity run wild. Crown Oaks Day is colloquially referred to as ‘Ladies Day’ and is traditionally focused on the most feminine of fashions. Delicate fabrics and romantic looks tend to win big at the iconic Myer Fashions on the Field event. Emirates Stakes Day is the finale to the Melbourne Cup Carnival and tends to welcome a more relaxed look. It’s also commonly referred to as ‘Family Day’ and it’s more about fun than high fashion.

At the Airport Name: Steve Lamb. Role: Superintendent, Rescue and Fire Fighting Services. On the airport beat: Four years. Best advice: “It has been proven in overseas studies that people can forget something as simple as how to take off their seatbelts in an emergency. So always watch the safety demonstration by the flight crew – they are not just there to serve you coffee!”

always thought being a firefighter would be a great thing to do. I have been one for almost 25 years and still think that way. When I first signed up, I never thought about the heroics. It was more about it being a good job, it had purpose and it was the chance to work with great people. "My first job was at Avalon Airbase in Victoria. At that time, it was the busiest 747 airport in Australia, and I got to understand what a fire crew does and, most importantly, what they are required to take care of at an airport. "Since then, I've moved to Cairns, Brisbane, Sydney, Canberra; and in 2009, I started at Sydney Airport as Assistant Station Manager. Today, I am the Superintendent of the Rescue and Fire Fighting Services. We have the same procedures as any other fire station, but we have different vehicles and are responsible for very different things. We are primarily here for the aircraft, in a job that does not get much attention as most of what we do is behind the scenes. There is a whole chain of events in place to take care of things before we are called in. And when we are, we can be anywhere at the airport within three minutes. "Sydney Airport has such a clean track record. With close to 320,000 air movements a year, we have had nothing significant to deal with – and that is a good thing. We don’t ever want to be needed, but we are here, on alert and ready to go when we are.

"We also monitor all the fire alarms in all

the buildings and incidents can range from someone smoking in a toilet to a fire in a kitchen. There are more than one million fire detectors in the T1 International terminal alone. It is well monitored, but has to be for everyone’s safety. "Many of the calls we deal with are medical and first response First Aid. While we are not paramedics, we are ‘Advanced First Aid’ as we are very qualified to take care of most situations. We have had to deal with CPR on passengers and we also carry defibrillators. "Our job is about to change with the arrival of more A380s plus the Dreamliners now here. The A380s are huge at more than eight metres tall and require a different set of procedures, and we have had to retrain for that. Aircraft construction has also changed, and so we have had to change the way we prepare to fight a fire. We keep our skills sharp at all times and have a strict training regime. Every firefighter has to renew his or her competencies within every 90 days to be able to continue in the job. In total, we have six women and 81 men on the rescue and fire fighting team. "I still love this job. When I started all those years ago, I was told it was a fun one I could do for life. Even today, I have to admit that is true.”

"That is not to say we just sit here all day! In fact, we were called out to 2,300 occasions last year, and that is an average of four a day. It ranges from being on standby, if a pilot has called in and is concerned about something to do with the landing – we are there just in case.

NEW FICTION From peaceful Mallee skies to the desert ruins of Turkey and the bright lights of London, these compelling new novels will take you on a worldwide journey through the heart, mind and soul.

NW By Zadie Smith

MALLEE SKY By Kerry McGinnis

Leah, Natalie, Felix and Nathan have left the confines of their childhood council estate to seek their adult fortunes under the bright lights of London. After a chance encounter, the four one-time friends are forced to confront their very different life choices and how the paths they chose – for good and ill – have shaped the people they have become. In her vivid portrayal of London, author Zadie Smith personifies the city as a strong fifth character in a compelling story that sways between brutality, humour and moments of profound clarity.

With a bad marriage behind her and her job on shaky ground, Kate Gilmore is at a tipping point in her life. Seeking the comfort of home, she retreats to rural Mallee – a place that holds painful childhood memories that haunt her still. When she takes a job as a carer on an isolated farm, Kate finds a place with her eccentric old benefactor and an intriguing young boy, yet must still confront the demons of her past that lurk in the shadows of her mind. From the bestselling author of Wildhorse Creek, this is a deeply Australian story.

THE GRAVITY OF BIRDS By Tracy Guzeman

I AM PILGRIM By Terry Hayes

Despite enjoying a close early childhood relationship, in adolescence sisters Alice and Natalie have become polar opposites. Alice is a thoughtful bookworm with a love for birds, while Natalie is quickly learning how to use her beauty as a tool to manipulate men. On a lakeside family holiday, Alice falls for their neighbour – a struggling and complex young painter – while Natalie remains surprisingly uninterested. But as their relationship deepens and the artist is drawn into their family dynamic, Alice and Natalie push their love for each other to breaking point.

When the body of a woman is found face down in an acid bath, a former US intelligence agent known mysteriously under the codename of Pilgrim is called in from retirement to assist the investigation. However, as he uncovers ever-deepening layers of the crime, it becomes evident that he is hunting a sophisticated international terrorist bent on mass murder. The ensuing manhunt pushes Pilgrim to the edge as he trails his target from a public beheading in Mecca, through the desert ruins of Turkey and into the remote wilderness of the Hindu Kush.

The LAST WORD ...

C

LISA

M CUNE Where have you most recently travelled? Perth. It’s the furthest I have been away from the East Coast for some time. What I love about travelling over is I can always catch a movie on the flight, and then at the other end is the beauty of Perth.

TV’s golden girl is treading the boards of the Sydney Opera House in the musical, South Pacific.

It is such a magnificent spot to just take in what makes Sydney so great.

What is it like to perform at the Opera House? Part of the reason I wanted to do South Pacific was because it was scheduled for the Opera House. I figured if my children could remember that I had once performed at the Opera House, one day that might mean something to them.

What makes South Pacific worth seeing?

What is the best way to cope with travel?

It is such a beautiful show and the themes are as current today as when the show first opened in 1949. A show as beautiful as this belongs in a building as beautiful as the Opera House.

Never panic as the people you are flying with know what they are doing. Be well organised so you enjoy the trip. Always ask for an exit row as it makes it all a bit easier. And take a copy of COMPANION with you to read!

What is the backstage bar like at the Opera House? Like a fabulous harbourside lounge room with about 150 of your closest friends!

What are three things you always pack?

BY JOHN BURFITT

A really good moisturiser, especially if it is a long flight, a pen and paper in case I get struck with a big idea or I want to do a crossword, and I love a great book to read.

What is your favourite spot in Sydney? Where the Royal Botanic Gardens meet the Opera House on the harbour is the most beautiful place in this entire city.

84

South Pacific plays at the Joan Sutherland Theatre until 2 November at the Sydney Opera House.
